Child Protection

Purpose

Chisago County Children's Services Division works within state guidelines and mandates to protect the children of Chisago County from abuse and neglect. Children's services staff provides services to families who are having a difficult time parenting their children. These services include assessment of the current situation and case management, if necessary.

Values

The core values within child protection are:

  • Coordinate necessary programs and services relevant to the prevention, intervention and treatment of child abuse and neglect.
  • Protect children from abuse and neglect while preserving the family integrity to the maximum extent possible.
  • Safeguard the general welfare of children by providing the services necessary to ameliorate the conditions that endanger the welfare of children.
  • Use an out-of-home placement as the last possible solution for child safety and if necessary, kinship / relative options are preferred; permanency must be achieved within 6 months for children 8 years and younger and within 12 months for children over 8 years.
