1. Can you give me the coordinates for my property corners?

A private surveying company should be contacted for property boundary information. The County Surveyor maintains the section corner data, but cannot perform private surveys.

2. Can you help me with street naming and house numbering?

The GIS Department is responsible for naming new streets and assigning addresses. If the new street is part of a plat, please contact the GIS Department at 651-213-8213 before the plat is finalized, to aid in naming said streets.

House numbers are assigned when the building permit has been applied for. Please contact our Environmental Services Department for further information on applying for Building Permits.

Back in 1999, Chisago County went through a process of upgrading their 911 system. During this process, the county reviewed its current street addressing scheme. It was determined that in order to make Chisago County's 911 system work as accurately and efficiently as possible, that a county-wide "re-addressing" project was in order. Due to this project, streets and house numbers are assigned based on a grid-system. You can see the generalized grid on the County Highway Map.

3. Does the county have section breakdown information and corner ties?

Most of the county is now completed with GPS coordinates for the section corners. If there is a corner which is not currently in the ground that you need to use for a survey, we will assist you in re-establishing it.

4. Do you have a copy of a survey of my property?

We have copies of the original plats, so if you own a lot in a block of a subdivision we can make you a copy for a small fee. If you own a parcel in the rural area with a metes and bounds description, then we do not have a copy of any survey that was made by a private surveying company.

5. Do you have topographic maps?

We have copies of the USGS Quadrangle maps. They show 10 foot contour lines at a scale of 1 inch equals 2,000 feet.

12. How much does a survey cost?

Each property has unique characteristics. A private surveying company could give you an estimate based on your legal description and the features of your land.

13. When do I need an access permit?

When ever new access is created or there is change of use in property.

14. Where can I find a bench mark?

We have 23 HARN bench marks scattered around the county. We also have a few along a couple of the newly constructed roads. Contact the County Surveyor at 651-213-8711.
